What it does

A dry-vermouth route that narrows sweetness and sharpens the divide between spirit and bitter. It is useful for a brisk, aperitif-led direction; equal parts can become severe unless the other two bottles supply enough breadth.

The dry switch. Pull the rosso cushion out and the sweetness goes with it, leaving the gin and Campari exposed. It's the move for a Cardinale or a dry Negroni, and it falls flat if the vermouth is thin.
