What does properly diluted mean?

Proper dilution means enough water from melting ice to soften the alcohol without making the drink taste thin. Stir with ice and taste as you go: the drink should be cold, with less alcohol burn and plenty of flavour. Timing varies with your ice.

Smith & Cross brings the unusual fermented-fruit aromas often called funk. Antica adds its own rich wine and vanilla character, while Campari keeps a deliberate bitter part. There is plenty of aromatic personality in that combination, but a fruity smell does not mean sweetened rum: the importer says Smith & Cross has no added sugar. The wine and bitter supply their own sweetness. You can enjoy an exuberant aroma and still want a drink with a firm bite.
