The story
Not every Negroni-shaped drink has to be short and heavy. Lengthen the bitter-and-vermouth idea with tonic or soda and it becomes something colder and slower, the way people actually stretch these drinks at home. Some versions keep the gin, others drift toward an Americano-style highball. What you lengthen with matters: tonic brings its own sweetness and quinine bite, soda stays cleaner but thinner. The through-line is the shape, bitter plus vermouth or pale aperitivo, plus length.
