Americano

Soda gives the bitter and sweet vermouth a long, sparkling setting without adding a spirit. The aperitivo determines what kind of bitterness you meet; the wine gives it support and character through the middle. Those two choices deserve attention even in a light-looking glass. An Americano is a useful request when that wine-and-bitter relationship is what you want to enjoy. How much soda you use changes its concentration, so length is part of the choice too.
