What does properly diluted mean?

Proper dilution means enough water from melting ice to soften the alcohol without making the drink taste thin. Stir with ice and taste as you go: the drink should be cold, with less alcohol burn and plenty of flavour. Timing varies with your ice.

Aperol is familiar in a spritz, but here it meets Tanqueray and Cocchi in a short, stirred drink. Its orange character and bitter botanicals have gin and sweet vermouth for company, with no sparkling wine in the mix. That gives you another way to enjoy the bottle beyond its usual association with bubbles. If Aperol’s orange appeal is what you like, this is a different setting in which to explore it. Leave the prosecco for another glass.
